Tek News Show Notes - 8/11/14

New oculus rift
New Oculus Rift DK2 is finally here. Hit some delays but its finally shipping to developers and gamers.
DK2 is better in that it has a bunch of IR leds and a camera to better track the headsets position for a more immersive experience.
They also lowered the persistance or the time the image is on the screen. so if you move suddenly you wont have ghosting
this is actually done by using the panel from a samsung galaxy note 3 overclocked to 75hz and giving 1080x960 per eye
better engine integration
better but still not there yet.

Apple News
Apple is going apparently going to be having their big iPhone release event on September 9th
A source that has been reliable in the past pegged this as the date so that means we are less than a month away from the new iPhone 6.
There has been a lot of rumors swirling around this device(s). We know there will be at least 1 if not 2 larger screen devices both running iOS 8

the iPad is also looking to be refreshed but probably wont be announced at the same event as to not overshadow the iPhone.
We should be getting the official word from Apple in the next couple weeks when they invite people so I will update you then.

Navdy
So several auto companys have installed HUDs in their car before, but this company is taking it to a new level in a device that can make any car smarter.
Its called Navdy and its a 5” HUD that does pretty much everything
answers calls, plays music, turn-by-turn, responds to texts and more. It even has a camera that allows you to just use gestures to control things.
It is voice controlled to with siri and google now.
it ties into popular apps like facebook, messages, whatsapp, spotify and more.
And as of right now it only costs $300.

definitely pretty cool.
