president signs unlocking bill
so a couple years ago congress passed a law that made unlocking cellhpones in the US illegal
but that was thankfully overturned this week with the “Unlocking consumer choice and Wireless Competition act” making it once again legal to unlock phones.
this law was rather lame as it promised fines or even jail time to those who were caught unlocking their phones. Yet this law was very hard to enforce as those who were doing the unlocking anyways are typically people who know what they are doing and how to reverse it if necesssary.
Shield tablet
nvidia came out with a successor to the nvidia shield, which is still sold but now called the shield portable
this new model is an actual 7” tablet but focused on not only providing great tablet experience but also solid gaming performance

Specs
  • NVIDIA Tegra K1 SoC
  • 8-inch "Full HD" screen (1,920 x 1,200, IPS LCD display)
  • Front-facing stereo speakers (think: HTC One)
  • 5MP front- and rear-facing cameras
  • DirectStylus 2
  • 16/32GB of internal storage, expandable by up to 128GB via microSD
  • 802.11a/b/g/n, optional LTE
  • 19.75 Watt-hour Lithium-ion battery
People are still reviewing them but so far the impressions have been pretty good
that being said it isnt for everyone.
the controller is seperate so for most gaming it is going to be just like doing it on any other tablet
except this one can stream and play full desktop titles
the optional controll runs on wifi and works great, but it is another thing to charge and carrry around as opposed to the last model where the screen and controller were one.

macbook pro retinas (13” and 15”) got refreshed
http://www.engadget.com/2014/07/29/apple-macbook-pro-refresh/ All 15-inch MacBook Pro Retinas now have 16GB of RAM standard instead of 8GB, and the priciest model has an optional 1TB PCIe-based SSD. The larger Retina models were also bumped by 200Mhz to the latest 4th Core-i7 CPUs, with the top-liner getting a Core i7-4980HQ which hits the magical 4.0GHz mark. Surprisingly, Apple has stuck with NVIDIA's GeForce GT-750M for its top model with discrete graphics rather than updating to the latest GeForce GT800M series. The upside, however, is that the price for that model has dropped by $100 to $2,499 The minimum amount of memory now available on the entry level 13-inch MacBook Pro has doubled to 8GB, and all 13-inch models also got a 200MHz CPU speed bump. Despite the performance tweaks, Apple has kept the same pricing across the board, apart from the aforementioned discrete graphics model. All of that should keep MacBook Pro fans happy, particularly those grumbling about the meager 4GB of RAM previously in the base models. but these updates were really necessary because upcoming yosemite while being pretty awesome does need more ram to run that buttery smooth that everyone is used to.
